Why do some people refuse to travel by airplane and others love the
excitement of flying to different continents? Quite often, phobics will
claim that nothing has ever happened to cause their reluctance, saying 'they
just don't like flying'.
However, nothing happens without a cause - fears and phobias are no
exception, they are either the symptom of some anxiety provoking experience, of
which the sufferer is often unconscious, or they are learned.
When faced with the task of dealing with the fear (in the absence of therapy
or self-help), the phobic often feels as though they are up against an invisible
force - they want to pass through, but no amount of will or effort seems to
help.
This section investigates the origins of these unwanted feelings and
discusses the various approaches to dealing with phobias (and almost everyone
has something that they are afraid of).
We include scripts for the hypnotherapist/psychotherapist to use in their
practice and MP3s and an online Guide to Self Hypnosis for anyone wanting to
help themselves.
